I'm not an old hand at this, but I've found invaluable help using these sites. May you as well, if needed.
Names: Behind the Name and Behind the Surname Besides history, popularity, and etymology, it has a random name generator and a searchable anagram collection.
Locations: Google Maps Unoriginal, I know, but too darn handy not to mention. I cannot count the number of times I've used it to suss out a location that met my needs, or scanned an area for ideas on town names, or used street view to pick up local flare and details, etc, etc.
Characters: Google Images Yes, more Google. But it gets results. Wonder what a male lead from Montenegro might look like? Search for him and find out. Need to put a face to an amorphous, secondary character? Search some of his/her traits - "Thai grandmother" or "tattooed nurse" or even "manipulative tycoon." You might be surprised what inspiration you find.
Best of luck in all your writings!
