One trick I have used for years to make fonts bigger while surfing the net is very easy to do.
Push down on your Ctrl button [in the lower left hand corner of your keyboard] and at the same time, use your scroll on the mouse to adjust the font to bigger or smaller - scroll forward or backward.
This tip also works just about anywhere. I use it all the time in Microsoft Word and Excel. I mostly use it on the internet though. Some sites have fonts that are very tiny in places. With my eyesight, it is helpful to be able to read the small writing and then scroll it back to the original size.

OK, here is a tip to make your windows desktop explorer fonts bigger. WinXP: Right click an empty spot on the desktop, then Properties, then the Appearance tab. Click the Advanced button. Find the Item box and click on it, it turns into a dropdown list. Look for the Icon entry. Yes, this is how you change the font sizes. Go figure. Once you have clicked Icon, click on the various items in the picture box like active text, inactive window, etc, and everywhere you see a font pop up, increase its size a couple digits, and maybe BOLD it. Save your changes, and go back to the desktop. Wow, you can read the text now. File Explorer is now legible.
In Windows 8, you have to find the Personalize tab, then change your Theme to Windows Classic, when you do, the windows settings tab appears at the bottom of the window, and you find the Properties/Appearance/Advanced tab the same way as above.
Young whippersnappers who design interfaces will be sorry when THEY are 60 and can't remember the name of the setting to change the fonts. Icon? WTF?
