One of my favorite sites from last November was Knights of NaNoWriMo Charge Again. The thread got me over the hump. Not sure I would have won without it. Unfortunately I don't know if the knights are going to charge in the summer. But I thought I'd share the link: www.nanowrimo.org/en/forums/all-ages-coffee-house/threads/62469
NaNo knights are brave and valiant souls who charge on to NaNoLot regardless of how far behind on their word count they are. They never abandon hope - despite having barely started toward their goal on Day 29. Instead, they band together to uplift each others spirits and word counts. No deadline is too short or word count too steep to deter a NaNo Knight.
(Quote of the opening knights post - 'cause I think they are truly amazing. And you get to invent your own steed.)
Knights! Brothers! Sisters! And estranged cousins! The challenge is close at hand! The tournament will soon commence! Our journey is imminent! THE QUEST IS ALMOST UPON US!
Awake, noble steeds! Awake, valiant muses! Don your armor and sharpen your weapons! For in a month's time, we ride! We ride for wrath, for ruin, and for NaNoLot! ForWE ARE THE KNIGHTS OF NANOWRIMO!
The Knights have een around since the last two weeks of November 2008. We began as a support group for a handful of people who, in the final days of NaNoWriMo, were thousands of words behind. We banded together and CHARGED toward the finish line, and most of us came back to win. In 2009 it happened again. And in 2010. Last year was awesome--several of our number wrote fifteen- and twenty- thousand words over the course of just a few days. Rosiedoodle alone, with our support, wrote over twenty thousand words in under twenty-four hours. We're the catcher-uppers, the lag-behinders, the come-backers, the I-was-sure-I-was-caught-up-what-on-earth-happened-oh-that's-right-I-didn't-write-all-last-weekend-did-I-ers. We're a big, squishy support group armed with swords, mythological in-jokes, and geek culture references.
So: new knights, WELCOME! Old knights, WELCOME BACK! People who have no idea whether they'll be knights or not: HI THERE! Arm thyselves and mount thy trusty steeds, because very soon, WE RIDE!
*points Horsefeathers toward a windmill and CCCHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGGGGGEEEEESSSS!*
*saddle slides off* I KNEW I should have tightened that girth strap! *chases after CCCHHHAAAAARRRGGGIIINNNGGGG! pony*
