I'm so excited, I've passed my goal for 50k for July Camp Nano!
I was floundering a bit, because my ending seemed to have fizzled out to obscurity. But suddenly I put my mc's life at risk and it all came together. I still have to write a bit more for her to escape, but her sacrifice will be the ending that I had hoped for. As 50k isn't enough for a YA Fantasy, I will need another 25-40k anyway. I still have many scenes to fill in with research details to make it come alive, but I'm very happy with my novel.

Thank you all for giving me a 'cabin' to enjoy discussions and progress. It really helps to keep me motivated when I have someone to talk writing with. I hope I see some more bragging as you each acomplish your goals. Any writing is progress.

Congratulations to all of you! You're great! I finally got everything together and validated at 17948, goal were meager 15000 for summer. (The last parts are still missing, though. I'll wrap it up in August.) I learned earlier this year from jackie what s'mores are and they really seem delicious. I wonder why we don't know something like that over here? A pity. We do Stockbrot (= twist bread or campfire bread) instead, so I'm contributing some of that. Special malt-and-beer sourdough, very tasty. Please help yourself - time to party!

Millersil, that sounds wonderful. Do you just substitute beer for the liquid? Here we have a beer bread recipe but it's a baking powder bread or self-rising flour bread, made in the oven, usually heavy and dense. Your stockbrot sounds like a great variation so long as someone is willing to share some beer with the dough. There is a South African version that grills the bread on the wire mesh grill and turned over, which only works if the dough is on the dry side, otherwise it falls through the grill.

Thank you! Wetdirt - right, I use black beer or malt beer for liquid. I also know receipts for baking powder breads, but it doesn't compare to fresh sourdough in my opinion which is more fluffy (?) in the end. This malt beer bread is originally also made in the oven and you can put roasted onions or other extras in the dough. And then Griebenschmalz on it ... which is one of the following depending on different dictionaries: lard, pork dripping, crackling fat. Tastes better than it sounds. ^^

Ooooo millrsil, malt & beer sourdough sounds lovely.
we made a kind of camping bread by rolling the dough into a snake and spiraling it up a green stick to hold over the fire. Is that what yours is like? The other way we made camping bread was to arrange lumps in a frying pan with a lid. cook over fire until one side is brown and flip.
When I was touring the Sahara, Taureg guides set bread dough in the sand and built the fire on top. When done, brushed off sand and ash.

Yup, Mllersll, that's the same technique we use - though I don't think our bread dough was ever as exciting as yours.

Wow, Sil, that looks delicious. And doesn't everything taste better cooked over a fire anyway?
