I'll probably now get a note from Proboards - they have bots that check for certain words. "You can't fool us with those spaces!" lol. Take that, you bots! As we discovered when forced to delete a perfectly innocent thread on same...

Even still, it is nice that they do that. I mean, protect their users. It's hard to get it just right. But you can't even SAY the word that begins with E and ends with A and has ROTIC in the middle? That seems a bit much.

We had it as one of the genres. We didn't have to delete the thread - we could have just changed the name on the tab. I don't think the bots get innuendo.
However, it is a good thing because that topic has a tendency to dominate everything once it starts.

However, it is a good thing because that topic has a tendency to dominate everything once it starts. I'm more comfortable with not having it, just because it is SUCH a different kind of writing with (I'm pretty sure) a different purpose than fiction like fantasy, sci-fi, literary, mystery - whatever. I started out this serious writing of mine with writing a fan fic, and it was really good (84,000 words but probably could have been about 2/3 of that if I had edited better at the beginning) and I was disappointed that more people didn't like it, but after looking through the other fan fic that people liked a lot, I realized they just all wanted porn, whereas I had a real, plotted story. But I'll never regret the experience as it's what got me into really writing seriously again after all these years. I can't imagine ever stopping writing again in life!

What show/book were you writing your fanfic about?

It was actually an RFP (real famous person) about Benedict Cumberbatch - he's from Sherlock. Basically it was a romance story where the main male character happened to be the fabulous Ben C.

As I recall our discuss veered from silly to academic. Nothing I found cringed-worthy - and I'm pretty squeamish about the e-genre

I did write a little smut in my fan fic. It was the first time I'd ever done anything like that, and only was able to because I knew my parents would never read it. That was seriously the main factor. Although I have three kids, I still feel uneasy thinking that my parents know I am aware of what male genitalia looks like, much less what it looks like aroused. You know there are great smileys here but no good blush one.

*lol* No kidding, Jennifer? Dear me, to think that one of the first things my mother asked me about my new boyfriend (and later husband) was how good his bed performance seemed. Him being just a few meters away and probably within hearing range, mind you.

Him being just a few meters away and probably within hearing range, mind you. That sounds like the way I would be with my daughter. I'm much more open than my parents. They are probably more open than I give them credit for. It just seems so taboo. I'd love to have my mom make cracks like that!

The truth, of course. I liked his abilities and thought I made quite a good catch with him.

I don't think it would have been a problem if I had pointed out one or two little flaws. Most men are quite eager to learn and improve their performance, no? Nothing to be ashamed about, at least not here.

"I liked his abilities." Way to avoid the e--tic scanning bots, mllersil. No wonder your murderers have such enticing cool.

So do you guys read each others' work? On what platform, if so?

No, we do not. I did read one of Bird's stories and it was quite good. We had a critique forum for awhile but only one or two people submitted. I gave some feedback but was never sure how it was received since the person I critiqued never mentioned it.
Sometimes it is good just to be supportive friends. That is why I use Scribophile for critiques. I may dip my toe in to CC just to see how the crits there are.

That makes sense. But when somebody here gets published, I'll be supportive by buying and reading their work, believe me! Not to crit, just to enjoy.

I'm looking forward to purchasing a couple books from writers like me as well, so hopefully there's a place where you guys have your books linked so I can pick up a couple!
