Howdy, Jennifer. Another Scrivener person here, though I can guarantee I do not use it to it potential, much less its full potential.

Hi everyone, let's see if this works! r.elena.t told me about this board on the NaNo forum, and since the cabin sorting is still a bit random it seemed a good idea to sign up for another writers' hangout. I'm Cat, 44 years old, and I live in Europe. I wanted to do NaNoWriMo for years and finally took the plunge last November. I made it to 50,000 with a peculair combination of chicklit-turned-urban fantasy with a dash of romance - no idea what happened there, but maybe, one day, I will finish it. Okay, that answers my question I posted on another board. Sounds interesting. Finish it in April! I'm just starting my fantasy novel in April, though I do have three scenes written already. I'm 42, so we are of an age, but I live in America (though one day, i SWEAR one day I will live in or near London).

I love that we have *two* cat icon people. I don't have a cat right now. :-( so I'll get my furry warm cuddle from you guys. (I do have a dog, but short hair & not a cuddler). I love non-cuddly dogs, because I'm allergic to them, but if they aren't cuddly too much I can handle them. Can't handle cats in the house at all without literally ending up in the hospital. But I don't have a dog now. I'll have to get my furry cuddles here too!

Hello everyone! *enthusiastic wave* I'm Lokanya and I'm new to the forum. Someone was wonderful enough to post the link on the Camp NaNo forum and I was thrilled to have another outlet to discuss all things awesome with fellow writers. (In case I end up with a quiet cabin again...)
I'm 33 years old and I'm a sci-fi/fantasy/horror writer. (Like I said, all things awesome!) I love discussing characters, plots, settings, and pretty much anything related to fiction.
Also, the create an avatar thing is pretty sweet.
I look forward to crushing Camp Nanowrimo this April with all of you!!

Hi, Lokanya. It's so nice to see these new faces in here. Make yourself at home.

Lokanya - love your name. I read the post about how you came up with it. My MCs name is Amanya. Same ending. I named her after my daughter, Amaria, without being too close.
I joined here because of that nano post, too (well maybe not the same one, but now that I think of it, I think I'll find some conversations there and post this forum - it's a great one to be in, I'm really loving it).
So I'm new too. I am writing a fantasy novel, which came out of nowhere, because it wasn't really my main reading material or anything. Though I've always loved horror (SK is my FAVE author!) and just working on sci-fi (Ursula K LeGuin) for my further understanding of the sci-fi/fantasy world. I read I, Robot a long time ago. And some other Asimov thing that I liked.
Umm, what I meant to say was WELCOME! Glad you stopped in!

(As I could imagine using your daughters name in a novel could get awkward...) It was probably the same one, I'd been searching the forums for some kind of non-offical 'Cabin' system pretty much all day, especially with the cabin system not working awesome. (Failed to put my friends and I into the same cabin) I dreaded the idea of another Camp Nanowrimo with zombies for cabin mates. I really like to hear what others are working on and have some friendly competition to motivate me so it appeared I needed a private forum in order to accomplish that. That being said, many that I found through general google searches had THOUSANDS of members and seemed more geared towards professional and literary writers. The moment I saw the post about this board I jumped on the chance to meet new writers and signed right up! Its awesome to see so many fantasy/horror/sci-fi writers. (Or as I call them, writers of all things awesome) I love the creativity that comes with these genre's (And the limited research, muaa haa haa) Also, I hope you don't mind I kinda creeped your profile and peeked at your Blog.

Feel free anytime, that's what I put stuff there for. My original cabin was not well-suited to me. I'm sure the writers there were wonderful, but they were all writing Christian inspirational or Christian fiction, and though I'm a Christian technically, that's NOT what I want to read or write. And then there was the one writing erotica. Haha, it would have almost been worth it to stay if people had to read each other's work and see how they would have all gotten on. But then I ended up in a cabin with two people I had requested and all other fantasy writers, so I'm happy with the cabin, but it doesn't give as much of a chance to really dig in, and this forum seems wonderful. First of all, there are writers my age (I'm 42 but you knew that eh?) and second, not too many that it is pointless. I'm already starting to feel like I "know" some of the people here, especially the awesome leader of the pack Elena (I think she is the leader - i guarantee she is awesome).

Hehe if I was wrong about that, it's because of her recruitment that I'm here, so that's why I think of her that way. Is there an official leader?

I just saw that the post on the Camp NaNoWriMo forum got moved down to the marketing catagory. Phew! Am I ever glad I saw it before it got moved!
I like the idea of having writers to chat to all year round, not just during NaNoWriMo's. Besides, I figure is someone has taken the time to search out a writing forum and post there as well, then they're probably pretty dedicated to their art and thus will provide good quality discussion.
(And maybe even some grammar tips for those of us who are grammar-challenged. Huh... I think that statement itself may have been grammar-challenged...)
Also, its nice to find other beginning writers who are venturing out into the world of self-publishing in order to ask a billion (Or so) questions about the topic. Not to mention its a way to learn about new authors to purchase novels from for my eReader. (As much as I like the big name authors, something makes me want to support writers in the same position I'm in.)

There is so much great literature out there from relatively unknown authors, and I'm just realizing that. (PS your sentence was grammar perfect.) This is exactly the kind of group I was dreaming of when I joined another thing called Critique Circle. There we post chapters and get critiqued each other, and it has led me to three friendships with fellow writers, but by e-mail as it doesn't really support a chatting with friends kind of atmosphere. There are forums, but they aren't as...I don't know, there's so many writers there and they're just not as friendly an environment as this is turning out to be.

And Elena, congrats on being official leader of the pack now! Wait.. What? That was the assumption I made based on you being the one who invited me. Nobody has told me yet if there is an actual leader. So I've unofficially assigned you. hehe.
